Know Your Path to Leadership

June 14, 2022

Were you promoted to a leadership role? Hired into one? Elected to it? These are three of the six ways in which people become leaders. Each path comes with its own challenges and opportunities. Yet people rarely recognize the different paths to leadership when considering the leadership styles and approaches they will use in their new role. Meredith Persily, who has been coaching executive leaders and teams for 20 years, talks about what she learned by interviewing more than 60 successful leaders who came to their roles differently. The findings are relevant to existing and emerging leaders, as well as those who support them.
