Albrecht Fellowship for High School Students

The Albrecht Fellowship officially launches with a dynamic opening session designed to lay the foundational mindset for global leadership. This crucial first step formally introduces the new cohort, setting the tone for the transformative five-month journey ahead. The session will provide Fellows with high-level, strategic insight into the current state of the world, exploring the major geopolitical and economic trends that emerging young leaders must understand. The launch will be anchored by two distinguished senior executives who will share actionable wisdom on what it truly means to lead globally, providing clear, practical direction. This powerful exposure ensures the cohort immediately adopts a global mindset and begins building the essential, professional network that defines the Albrecht Fellowship experience. 

Effective leadership in a diverse world requires more than authority, it demands clarity, empathy, and the ability to inspire action across different perspectives. This session focuses intensely on developing the personal skills needed to communicate well as a young leader. Fellows will engage in an interactive improv workshop designed to sharpen their collective decision-making capabilities, teaching them how to navigate complex group dynamics, articulate ideas clearly, and move a diverse team toward a common goal. Following this, students will learn about the critical importance of personal brand building in the digital era through a highly interactive workshop. Fellows will learn how to effectively identify and market their unique strengths and values, positioning themselves as confident and effective communicators in both digital and professional environments. 
 

Disruptive technologies have been used for decades to drive change and do good around the world. They break barriers in accessibility to resources and services, enable the process of globalization through communications, ensure improved farming and water purification practices, and much more! Today, technology drives all aspects of life, and while humans are still not existentially threatened by technology, understanding its influence and how to harness its potential is essential to our success. While artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) have been around for a while, generative AI has captured the attention of mostly everyone in recent months – in the context of opportunity, but also a threat. This session will review a couple of technological solutions to existing global problems and will spark a conversation about their application, regulation, and utilization. 

Navigating the complexities of the digital landscape is a critical skill for every young leader. In an era of constant connectivity, the way we consume media directly impacts our ability to understand global issues and influence policy. As new technologies like Artificial Intelligence continue to reshape our information streams, developing “digital detective” skills like the ability to verify sources and find the signal in the noise is more important than ever.This session will focus on strategic media consumption and the power of finding your authentic voice in the digital age. Through a highly interactive workshop, Fellows will explore best practices for strengthening self-efficacy and ensuring they can effectively communicate their vision and lead with clarity in a tech driven interconnected world.

The world has entered a phase where economic prosperity, effective public policy, and ecological survival are inextricably linked. Leaders must now confront the challenge of supporting a growing global population and maximizing profit while managing finite resources like water, arable land, and energy. This session analyzes the intricate relationship between government regulations (Public Policy) and corporate sustainability efforts (Global Business), exploring modern case studies to show how innovative companies across industries are planning for a future defined by shifting climate baselines, not historical averages. Fellows will hear from business executives, scientists and leading experts to gain critical knowledge needed to lead in a resource-constrained world and positioning themselves as stewards of global prosperity and stability through embracing actionable efficiency.

True leadership is about igniting change and forging lasting impact across the world. This session inspires Fellows to understand how different sectors from innovative aid organizations to local governments must unite to champion global good. We will explore the powerful convergence of critical resources (like clean water) and strategic action (like effective humanitarian response and economic stability) that is required to transform lives and help entire communities thrive. Fellows will hear directly from the visionary leaders from local and global organizations who are driving this change, analyzing successful models of community development that focus on lifting others up. Our focus will be on sustainable benefit, studying how initiatives are designed not just to withstand crises, but to empower communities to lead the change.  

The strongest global leaders are defined by their commitment to service and active citizenship. This dedicated session transcends theoretical concepts, plunging Fellows directly into practical, hands-on service learning within the local community. Fellows will work collaboratively alongside their peers and local nonprofit leaders, applying their insights to address real-time community needs and champion social good. This experience is designed to develop essential leadership skills including empathy, resourcefulness, teamwork, and civic responsibility, while demonstrating the profound, immediate impact of volunteerism. By actively contributing their time and energy, Fellows will gain a deeper understanding of how local action creates powerful, sustainable change, reaffirming their role as active, compassionate leaders both locally and globally. 

This session will be a celebration of the completion of the program by reflecting on the fellows’ personal and professional growth in the last few months. Be prepared to be inspired yet again and make a promise to yourself and your peers to carry the Albrecht Fellow name with pride wherever your life takes you!
